SEARCH

The SEARCH function finds one text string within another text string and returns the starting position of the found text (case-insensitive).

Syntax​

=SEARCH(find_text, within_text, [start_num])

Parameters​

  • find_text: The text to find
  • within_text: The text to search within
  • start_num: Optional. The character position at which to start the search

Examples​

=SEARCH("world", "Hello World") // Returns 7
=SEARCH("O", "HELLO WORLD") // Returns 5
=SEARCH("e", "Hello World", 2) // Returns 2
